SuperSport has said it will broadcast all the matches of the African Women’s Championship live when the tournament holds from October 11 to 25 in Namibia.
Apart from competing for the continental crown, Nigeria, Zambia, Namibia, Algeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Ghana will battle it out for World Cup qualification at the tournament.
Africa will produce three representatives at the Women’s World Cup next year after FIFA decided to increase the participation at the event from 16 to 24. Only two had represented the continent in past events.
In 10 editions of the AFC, since its inception in 1991, only two teams have been crowned as Africa champions, Nigeria (a record eight times) and twice by defending champions Equatorial Guinea, who’ll be absent at this year’s edition. The Nzalang Nacional fell at the final qualification hurdle, losing on the away goals rule to Ivory Coast after a 3-3 aggregate draw.
