Leading Pay-TV provider, MultiChoice Nigeria, has unveiled plans to further develop the Nigerian league and ensure it competes with the big leagues of Europe.
Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday, General Manager, Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria, Martin Mabutho, said the company would embark on a drive with other sponsors of the league, to bring back the glory days of the country’s football.
He said, “The broadcast of the league in Nigeria requires closer engagement between ourselves; the sponsors, the administrators and the clubs for us to be able to assess how far we’ve come and move forward.
“Look at the South African league, at some stage, it was the fifth richest league in the world. Why can’t we have same thing here?”
Mabutho added that there were plans to bring back the fans in large numbers to watch league games across the country.
“There are obvious concerns about empty stands and we have to find a way of enticing people to go to the stadiums. Security too is a concern because innocent people have lost their lives watching football, so we need to sit down and work things out.
“We have made HD studios available for the Nigerian league just like the EPL, La Liga and the PSL. We will have closer collaborations with the other sponsors of the league and know what is required,” he added.
