RESIDENTS of Port Harcourt and its environs will continue to experience persistent power outage as the Electricity Distribution Company in charge of the area announced on Saturday that normalcy in power supply would return on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

PHED disclosed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria handling the reconductoring of the 132 KV lines from Oginigba to Ogbunabali junction was not able to complete the job as expected.

The electricity distribution company had told Port Harcourt residents that normal power supply to the area would be restored by July 23, 2014.

The Public Affairs Manager of PHED, Mr. John Onyi, said that the current shortage of electricity supply witnessed in the state was due to insufficient megawatts the company received from the national grid.

Onyi said that the state was currently receiving between 150 and 164 megawatts, as against the 694 megawatts needed for the city.

He pointed out that the shortage of megawatts forced the company to embark on load-shedding to ensure the limited supply was equally distributed.

“The contractors of Transmission Company of Nigeria, handling the reconductoring of the 132kv lines from Oginigba to Ogbunabali junction, have assured that normal power supply will be restored to Port Harcourt metropolis by the evening of Thursday, July 31,2014.

“The assurance followed the inability of the contractors to complete the work on the reconductoring on Saturday as earlier scheduled due to technical reasons,” Onyi said in a statement issued on Port Harcourt on Sunday.

He, however, appealed to its customers to exercise patience as the ongoing work was aimed at improving service delivery.

Onyi explained that the loss of nine distribution transformers to vandals was responsible for the current electricity outages being experienced in Ada George, Mile 3, Ikwerre Road, Iwofe Road and some areas in Rumueme community.
