It was a sad weekend in Urora community, an outskirt of Benin City, Edo state, when three children lost their lives in a building collapse.
Two of the deceased children are sons of the Edo State chairman of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Mr. Osamudiamen Osagiede. The girl among them who equally lost her life in the collapsed building was the daughter of Osagiede’s sister.
Daily Trust learnt that the children who are 15, 12 and 8 years went to the building to repair their bicycle when tragedy struck.
Two other children in the compound and the bicycle repairer sustained serious injuries and currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Mr. Osagiede’s children died before they could be rescued.
Devastated Osagiede who was away for a youth competition described the incident as shocking. “I received a call to come back because I was away for this ongoing competition for talent hunt in the state. I was shocked that two of my sons died in the incident. You can imagine. I have six children four girls and two boys, now I have lost the two boys,” he cried.
He wept uncontrollably as sympathisers throng his residence to condole with him. Daily Trust observed that the building was old and may have given in to age and the persisted rainfall of recent days.
