Ivorian soccer fans demand new coach for Elephants:
Some supporters of the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire have called on the Ivorian Football Federation to hire a more experienced coach that will build a new team.
The supporters, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abidjan on Thursday, said the team’s poor outing at the FIFA 2014 World Cup was largely due to technical incompetence.
One of them, Isi Kouadio, an undergraduate, said that Sabri Lamouchi did not possess enough technical and managerial experience suitable for a team like the Elephants.
He said, “Lamouchi failed to nurture younger players who will be ready to play for the country, players who will be thirsty for victory.
“The coach displayed gross incompetence, which good coach will change players such as Didier Drogba and Yao Kouassi as we saw during the match against Greece.”
Kouadio said that the country would do better under a coach with charisma, better experience and independent mind-set, adding, “a coach that will refuse to be controlled by the IFF.”
Another supporter, Yann Patrick, a businessman, said the country’s national team lost its winning spirit under Lamouchi.
He said, “The spirit to win starts from the technical team, a good coach reads the game from the bench and takes the right step, Lamouchi failed in this regard.
“Any coach that will be hired by the IFF must be a well experienced person, he must not necessarily be a foreigner, what matters is the experience and determination.”
Also speaking to NAN, a female supporter, Marie-Andree Assamoi, called on the IFF to be thorough in the choice of a new coach for the team in order to resurrect its fortunes.
“He has to be experienced, we need a real boss, that will not be cowed by the influence of the big stars in the team, Cote d’Ivoire needs a real team manager,” she said.
It would be recalled that Lamouchi announced his exit from the team after the team lost 2-1 to Columbia in the last group match in the ongoing World Cup.
The Elephants were in Group C alongside: Japan, Columbia and Greece. They won their opening match 2-1 against Japan, lost 1-2 and 2-1 to Columbia and Greece, respectively.
