The Rivers State government is to enter into partnership with the University of Akansas, United States of America in the area of youth training as well as agricultural development to create more jobs in the state.
This was made known to Journalists by the Commissioner of Youth Development, Owene Wonodi in Port Harcourt after the executive council meeting.

“The Rivers State working group will be departing the state to the United States of America and precisely we are going to the University of Akansas.
“The purpose of our visit is an exchange visit in respect of the grants that is being awarded to Rivers State Government to enable us do some rural agricultural projects.
“The essence of this trip is to go and meet with foreign partners to deepen our understanding and also to enhance sustainable international relationship with them”, he said.
The commissioner also said that a memorandum of understanding would be signed between Rivers State and the host university to seal the partnership deal.
“In the course of doing this, an MoU will be signed on the phase three of the project where we will be taking off.
“The Commissioner of Women Affairs and her Permanent secretary will be in attendance. We also do have the Vice Chancellor of the University of science and Technology.
“The reason is that when we come back, we hope the affiliations will help improve our research scheme because the university is also involved in it since this will give us the opportunity to take care of all that we need to know”, he added.
Two communities, selected from any of the twenty three local government areas in Rivers State will be used as a test running site for the pet project.
