Bayelsa cancels celebration

Due to the rising spate of insurgency in the country, Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson on Tuesday cancelled this year’s Children’s Day celebration in the state.

To this end, the governor cancelled the traditional march past and children’s party in Government House.

He, however, said a select children would be entertained at the Governor’s Lodge in the evening to give them a sense of belonging.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said, “This is to inform the general public, especially our children that due to the current mood and the various challenges facing the nation, His Excellency, Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State has directed that this year’s Children’s Day celebration in the state scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2014, be made low-keyed.

“To this end, the traditional march-past and children’s party in Government House have been cancelled.

“However, to give the children a sense of belonging, the governor is expected to host a few select children to a close door get-together at the Governor’s Lodge, Government House, Yenagoa by 4 o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.”

He, therefore, directed all the eight local government areas chairmen in the state to comply with ghe directive and act accordingly.
